Moscow with nearly twenty million metropolitan inhabitants continues to expand yearly having doubled in size in the past forty years.
Rayons, districts surrounding the metropolitan area of Moscow are often as large as many major Italian cities and they too continue to expand. Newly built huge skyscrapers are continuously emerging. The suburbs describe well what has become of the current Russian society: a mixture of sadness and ugliness. But in the eyes of foreigners it still exudes charm and interest despite heavy chemical pollution and factory smoke behind residential areas and the loneliness that can be felt while walking in one of the many expansive green areas.
